Grace Marie Olfert was born July 22, 1943 to John and Louise Thiessen in Hague, Saskatchewan.  She passed away peacefully, after a brief battle with cancer, in her home Friday Oct 15, 2021, surrounded by her family, at the age of 78. The Thiessen family moved to the farm south of Superb in 1953. Mom was the only daughter and had four brothers. Mom met our dad Jake and were married in 1963. Mom & Dad moved to a farm north of Superb, Saskatchewan, where they raised their family. Glen born in 1964, Randy 1966, and Abby 1968.

For many years, Mom and Dad were a part of the Superb Mennonite church. Large family gatherings have always been important to Mom, which of course always involved lots of wonderful food. In 1993, Mom and Dad had a farm auction and moved to Luseland and lived there until October of 2005. They then moved to Trochu Alberta to be near their daughter Abby and family.  Sadly, on December 28 Dad passed away suddenly.  We believe God had this in his plan, as Mom was living close to us. Mom built a duplex in Trochu the next summer and settled into life in Trochu.  She worked at St. Mary’s Health Care Centre as a Health Care Aide, she loved caring for the residents and developed many friendships there, and it was at this time that she met Ron Mossop, a volunteer at St. Mary’s.  Mom and Ron were married in 2010 and moved to Ron’s Home in Trochu. Mom and Ron loved to fish and did lots of camping with close friends and family. They traveled a bit, but Mom loved to be home in her sewing room, and close to family. Mom and Ron became members of the Manor Gospel Church and made many close friends there.

Mom is lovingly remembered by her husband, Ron Mossop, of 11 years; Her children Glen Olfert (fiancée Heather Walker); Randy (Jocelyn) Olfert, Abby (Bruce) Jensen.  Her grandchildren Davin (Serena) Olfert, Daylean (Harley) Mutch, Rylen Olfert, Christopher Olfert, Amanda Olfert (Trent Addis), Curtis (Julia) Jensen and Krista (Josh) Fry.  Her great granddaughter Aurora Mutch.  Ron’s children Tracy (Rick) Sereda & Derek Mossop, and grandsons Dalton & Corbin Mossop. Her brothers Menno (Eileen) Thiessen, Harry (Elaine) Thiessen, Ed (Judy) Thiessen and sister-in-law Glenda Thiessen and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband, Jake Olfert, of 42 years, her parents John and Louise Thiessen and her brother Laverne Thiessen. Mom/Grandma was always one of the most loving people and enjoyed few things more than just spending time with her family.

Just about everyone who knew her had the privilege of being gifted one of her homemade quilts.

She was bigger than life.
